How to Restore a Bumped Canvas

Most people these days buy canvas packs of six or more. They use a few and store the rest. Unfortunately bumps and knocks do happen from time to time, and canvas’ aren’t as sturdy in the middle as they are round the sides.

So what do you do when the canvas in question gets bumped and has a dent in it?

Most people would probably grab another canvas and use it for a tester to practice on or try new techniques. But what if its your last canvas and the local art shop is closed and internet companies take 2-3 days to deliver, or next day express delivery, but it needs to be with the customer before twelve the next day. That is where this could help you out of a tight spot.

Using a sponge, water and a bit of patience you could be up and painting again within an hour. Get your damaged canvas and place it on a towel or on a surface you dont mind getting wet. Then get your sponge and put it in the water so it is nice and wet.

Now being careful make all the canvas damp but not soaking. Leave it until dry and you should find the dent disappears. if it is still there repeat the process.
Obviously really bad dents wont come out but the majority of dents and knocks will come out and then you are ready to paint again.

You can also lightly spray the back of the canvas with water and use a hairdryer on a warm setting to lightly go over the area that is dented.
It will be a lot qucker than just damping it. Used this method loads of times.
