A Masterclass in Fashion Illustration

Head to Granary Square, London this February to expand your knowledge of Fashion Illustration with Illustrator Montana Forbes.

At school I was lucky enough to take a Fashion Diploma, through this I’m aware of how challenging it can be to draw the human form or an item of clothing. If this masterclass had been happening when I was learning, I’d have been on the next train to London to try and better my techniques.

The main focuses when drawing a garment are line, colour and texture but without full perspective your experimenting might not look how you desire. Montana is a busy creative who stresses the importance of having your own style whilst having knowledge of the latest trends in the fashion world.

This illustrator, who spent her childhood in the US and in Zimbabwe holds familiarity within several creative areas, ranging from Art History to Graphic Design. It would be interesting to find out how she perfected her technique and what her favourite part of Fashion Illustration is. Personally I enjoyed developing fashion pieces through mannequin style drawings, showing how they would relate in the world, such as fabric choices and pattern design combinations.
Montana uses Photoshop to fine-tune her work; with digital illustration becoming more and more popular it could be fun to see how you could finalise your work with the help of a computer.
Have you ever struggled to make an outfit come to life through paper? Do you plan on attending this masterclass?
